Youth strikers push for Tory climate debate
Quakers took part in a protest outside the Conservative Party headquarters last month
Friends were among a crowd of protesters who gathered outside the Conservative Party headquarters last month demanding that the party should have a climate debate to push the environmental crisis firmly into the general election spotlight.
According to its Facebook statement: ‘Our earth is burning, our climate worsening and our leaders are failing us more than ever before; we need to change that.
‘We, the youth strikers, have called on each major political party in the UK to support and join our call for a climate debate to ensure that this December 12th the general election is about the single most defining issue of our time, the climate crisis. So far we have received support from every party apart from the Conservative Party.’
The protest in early November pushed for the Conservatives to explain their future climate solutions and commit to radical climate action. The prime minister Boris Johnson was criticised last week for refusing to take part in the leaders’ debate on the climate crisis on Channel 4, as was the Brexit Party. Leaders of the Green Party, Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and the Scottish National Party all took part in the session.
