Young leaders course launched
Woodbrooke launches the 'Young Adult Leadership Programme'
A year-long part-time course for young adult Quakers will run for the first time from August 2012. The Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, who have launched the scheme, say they feel it is important ‘to be serving all different ages of Friends’.
Woodbrooke’s Michael Eccles told the Friend that it is ‘sometimes the case’ that younger Quakers are not taken as seriously as they should be by other Friends.
Participants aged 19-28 will explore spirituality, Quaker history and theology and personal skills. The ‘Young Adult Leadership Programme’ will include three residential events, online learning and individual projects guided by tutors.
The cost per person is £1,450. Woodbrooke hope that individual Meetings will contribute to this. Young Friends General Meeting have set aside £3000 to help their members participate in the course.
Part of the course will look at younger people who have contributed to significant change – including George Fox and Jesus. ‘People have forgotten just how young they were,’ said Michael.
