Young Friends gather in Liverpool
Young Friends General Meeting met from 3 to 6 May in Liverpool
Young Friends General Meeting (YFGM) came together last week for a weekend of spirituality, Business Meetings and shared worship. The gathering at Liverpool Meeting House from 3 to 6 May included workshops on ‘veganism as Quaker witness’ and ‘activism and chronic illness’. Friends Sasha Lawson-Frost and Chloe Scaling led the former, while Jennie Atherton and Alexandra Boliver-Brown held the latter.
Rici Marshall-Cross and Sam Cooper, the YFGM clerks, said before the event that they were particularly excited about ‘an afternoon of “unstructured community time”’ as well as what they called ‘the main item’ exploring mental health. They said: ‘After the busy agenda we had at February’s YFGM, we have managed to plan quite a light agenda.’
The gathering also included sessions on ‘transgender and non-binary inclusion’ and the group ‘Roots of Resistance’. Chris Rivers, from Quaker Social Action, led a workshop on ‘discerning social action’ and Laurence Hall spoke on ‘Forgettable Quaker radicals: Sam Hobson and the birth of Modern Quakerism’.
