Quakers in Yorkshire (QiY) trustees are re-directing £25,000 of funds to continue the Yorkshire youth work project. The trustees are following a ‘strong desire expressed by Friends’ to reallocate remaining funds for the Adult School Union, which closed in 2015. The money was given to QiY to support Friends to attend Woodbrooke courses instead, but the take-up was low, with no new requests last year.

David Olver, clerk of QiY trustees, told the Friend: ‘The background is that Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) employs a Youth Development Worker, Lee Lester, who is based in Sheffield. This is a three-year legacy-funded project which is due to finish this summer. The youth work has been successful and there is a strong desire among Yorkshire Friends to find ways for it to continue.’

BYM has since extended Lee Lester’s exployment for another year.

The Adult School Union funds of roughly £25,000 will pay for about half a year of the total annual cost of the Yorkshire youth work. BYM has announced that Bridget Holtom is the new development worker for Yorkshire based in Carlton Hill Meeting House in Leeds.
