120 Friends in Yorkshire met at The Retreat

More than 120 Yorkshire Quakers met at The Retreat last month, prompting staff at the York mental health hospital to hunt for extra chairs.

Quakers in Yorkshire meet every quarter, with attendance more likely to be around the seventy mark. This time the meeting focused on the work of The Retreat and other aspects of mental health, in particular Quaker views and involvement.

Talks covered a range of topics. Friends heard about the history of The Retreat and the work of its community resource, The Tuke Centre. They also listened to a talk on ‘Towards a Quaker view of mental health’, which was the theme of a recent conference at the Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre.
