Yearly Meeting Gathering (YMG) 2014 is oversubscribed

by The Friend Newsdesk 27th June 2014

Yearly Meeting Gathering (YMG) 2014 is oversubscribed. There are 2,018 people booked for the event at Bath, including day visitors. This compares with 1,662 at Canterbury, in 2011, including day visitors. At York in 2009, 1,648 people attended, not including day visitors. So, there will be a twenty per cent increase in attendance at Bath. This demand has been attributed to ‘an increasing desire among Friends to gather “to see one another’s faces”’.

The Friend has been told that ‘only Friends whose bookings have already been accepted will be able to attend. This includes any Friends hoping to attend only part of the event.’

Yearly Meeting clerk Chris Skidmore said: ‘It is heartening to have such a huge response but extremely disappointing to turn away Friends. It is our experience that Friends across Britain will be upheld and strengthened by Yearly Meeting Gathering, whether or not they can be physically present.’

All Quakers can keep up with the events at YMG online at www.quaker.org.uk/ymg, by following @BritishQuakers on Twitter (#ymg2014) or on Facebook.
