Woodcraft Folk back campaign

Woodcraft Folk has pledged to campaign to get the military out of schools

Woodcraft Folk, the national children’s charity, has pledged to campaign to get the military out of schools.  At their recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) the charity voted against military activities leading to recruitment of under eighteen year olds from within UK schools.

Quakers from Exeter and London were represented at the AGM. The decision means that Woodcraft Folk, who run hundreds of youth groups around the UK, will provide resources and support to their 20,000 members to campaign at their schools and colleges.

Sam Sender, 21, a member of London West Area Meeting, helped to choose the campaign. He said: ‘What worries us most as a children’s charity is the effect on the most disadvantaged young people. Up to £94 million is spent training recruits aged sixteen to seventeen while youth centres are forced to shut their doors.’
