Woodbrooke launches online postgraduate courses
The first online postgraduate courses in Quakerism have been launched
The first online postgraduate courses in Quakerism have been launched by the Woodbrooke Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies in Birmingham. The Centre, in conjunction with one of the top dozen universities in the UK, Lancaster University, is now offering the first online postgraduate courses in Quakerism: a Postgraduate Certificate in Quaker Studies; and an MA in Quakerism in the Modern World.
The development has ‘opened up’ Woodbrooke to students from across the globe. There is no residential requirement. Students, for the first time, from across the UK or anywhere in the world will be able to register and pursue a postgraduate course from where they live.
Ben Pink Dandelion, who looks after the Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies, will be running the courses. He explained: ‘This is a really exciting and significant development… We hope that we will have a global learning community with Friends and those interested in Quakerism from all over the world learning together.’
Both courses are designed to introduce students to theories, issues and processes connected with the history, theology and sociology of Quakerism in a global context. The courses will begin in October 2014.

I am considering taking an online Quaker studies certificate. Both your program and Earlham School of Religion are starting programs in the Fall of 2014. Do you have a summary of the course options for me to consider. I am interested in eventually focusing on a dialogue between Quakers and Baptists. Thank you.
