Welwyn Garden City Meeting House reopens
Friends gathered for the official reopening of Welwyn Garden City Meeting House
WElwyn Garden City Friends were joined by family and neighbours on 16 May for the official reopening of the Meeting house on Handside Lane, following a major refurbishment.
Over a hundred people toured the new facilities. They heard about the history of the building, which is ninety years old this year, and enjoyed afternoon tea.
John Spielman of Welwyn Garden City Meeting declared the refurbished building open. The ribbon encircling it was cut by the oldest and youngest Friends – Greta Harris and Freda Whiting, both in their nineties, and Freya Bewley, one, and Elkie and Alec Lowe, four and six years old, respectively.
Elizabeth Fowler, a member of Welwyn Garden City Meeting, said: ‘It was lovely to welcome so many interested people.’
The refurbishment was undertaken to provide more space for community groups that use the Meeting house.
