The dire effects of the present monetary system and its failure were recently pointed out by our Friend George Penaluna (‘Money is debt: a vicious circle’, 5 July). These pernicious consequences can be seen to stand even in terms of the conventionally accepted, if misguided, objective of restoring economic growth. We welcome this reminder, but we feel that much more needs to be done to address what has been called ‘economic illiteracy’.
