Wanstead Friends this month hosted an arts event featuring work by local Quakers. ‘Waves, Motion and Stillness’ was part of Leytonstone Arts Trail and included storytelling, art and activities.

Wanstead Friends have been hosting the event for the last four years. The exhibition was held at the Meeting house on the edge of Epping Forest on 7-8 July and on 14-15 July.

Alison Chaplin, from Wanstead Meeting, told the Friend: ‘We joined in the art trail by putting on a big exhibition of work by Quakers and Quaker friends, which included photography, pottery, printing, drawing and paintings.

‘The title came out of a workshop I ran in January. There were also storytelling and poetry sessions and we hosted a Mindfulness Walk from the Meeting house to Epping Forest, which is on our doorstep. It is good outreach. Every two years we do a sculpture trail as part of the event, which brings in a whole new audience to our Meeting house.’
