Waldo Williams
The Welsh Quaker poet was the subject of a special Remembrance Day programme
The distinguished Welsh Quaker poet Waldo Williams was the subject of a special Remembrance Day programme on BBC Radio Wales. The programme used extracts from a talk given by Rowan Williams, archbishop of Canterbury, and contributions from people who knew the famous Welsh poet to paint a picture of the life, work and influence of Waldo Williams.
Rowan Williams, who described Waldo Williams as ‘probably Wales’ greatest twentieth century poet’, focused on the importance of both poetry and peace making in the poet’s life.
His talk was entitled ‘Peacemaking and Poetry’ and he described these subjects as ‘inseparable’ in the life and nature of the poet.
The sixty minute programme, which is in English, is available on BBC i-Player until this weekend.
