'Return once more to consciousness, the roar of being...'
Wake brain
Poem by Roger Iredale
WAKE BRAIN,
DRAW BREATH,
CRY LIFE
Return once more to consciousness, the roar
of being, of seeing half-bright galaxies
roaming overhead, of struggles in foaming
floods of alien words, new faces, birds
at daybreak, trees, the joy of laughter, bees,
and tales of mystery, imagination, history.
The child grows strong. Along her path
the beat of day and night, the heat
of friendship, the might of words, right
and wrong, those urgent songs of liberty,
gleams of love, dreams of better times,
Across it all, a growing sense of loss.
You find a broken world, half-truths spoken
with the boldness of deceit, laws that cheat
the poor, make you question what you stand for.
Assert the Spirit, keep faith and brain alert
give hope, live cheerfully in the world.
Now is the hour to question Power.
SEEK PROOF
DRAW BREATH
SPEAK TRUTH
