Friends in Bury St Edmunds held a half-hour silent vigil at the Memorial Peace Garden in Abbey Gardens on Armed Forces Day.

Friends gathered for the vigil in the gardens on Saturday 24 June, with a striking banner, and invited the public to join in their peace witness.

A letter sent from local Friends to the press explained the background and reasons for the vigil: ‘On Armed Forces Day we emphasise our belief that the best way of supporting the country’s military personnel is to work and pray for peace, peacebuilding and conflict resolution.’
