An event about 'Nonviolence and Just Peace' has taken place at the Vatican

A groundbreaking conference took place at the Vatican this week, when eighty delegates gathered to review the Catholic teaching on peacemaking.

The Holy See’s Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and Pax Christi International convened the event, which was titled ‘Nonviolence and Just Peace: Contributing to the Catholic Understanding of and Commitment to Nonviolence’.

Before the conference, participants hoped that it might signal an end to the Catholic Church’s use of the ‘just war’ theory. This uses a series of criteria to evaluate whether violence is morally justifiable.
