Six Quaker US Congressional candidates took part in a live web panel this week sponsored by the Friends Journal magazine and the Earlham School of Religion.

The two-hour panel on 22 March included debate from Quaker candidates Steve Bacher (Pennsylvania), Adam Coker (North Carolina), Darlene McDonald (Utah), Shawna Roberts (Ohio), Molly Sheehan (Pennsylvania) and Nick Thomas (Colorado).

It was designed to answer questions such as ‘does faith influence values?’ and ‘Can it be a factor in governance without closing the gap between church and state?’

Darlene McDonald said in the broadcast: ‘I believe our Quaker faith prepares us to listen… we can sit with people we don’t agree with… and work from there. The main issue that people have [with politicians] is not being heard.’

The upcoming US Congressional midterm elections already have at least seven Quaker candidates for office.
