Tokyo students visit Quaker heartland
Students from Friends School Tokyo have visited Woodbrooke to learn about Quaker history
A group of Japanese students from Friends School Tokyo stayed at Woodbrooke this month to learn about Quaker history.
Around twenty students visited Bournville town and Meeting house, where they learnt about the Cadbury family. Their itinerary also included George Fox’s birthplace, Fenny Drayton, and Lichfield, where they were hosted by local Quakers, who took them to Meeting for Worship and gave them lunch. The students also visited ‘1652 country’, Stratford-upon-Avon and a mosque for Interfaith Day. They moved on to Oxford, Windsor Castle and London, before leaving on 12 August.
Stuart Masters, senior programme leader for on-site learning at Woodbrooke, told the Friend: ‘The idea is for the students to get a sense of the roots of Quakerism.’
