‘Leadership is a gift I am called to use; I have honed it through lived experience.’
I was once on the veranda at a Quaker centre when a weighty Friend said: ‘Oh, but don’t you do something vocational?’ It may have been meant kindly, but it felt like a put down. I was working in the city and the decade I spent in the commercial sector served me well. I learned about leadership, how to read financial accounts, and built my confidence in a world that, at that time, was almost completely male led (even now there are just six women CEOs of FTSE 100 companies).
