‘Love your neighbour.’

Friends World Committee for Consultation has announced that this year’s World Quaker Day theme is ‘Love Your Neighbour’. The theme for the day on 5 October has been guided by Galatians 5:14: ‘For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”’

Tim Gee, FWCC’s general secretary, said, in a letter sent to Quaker Meetings, ‘There are many forces today encouraging us to hate our neighbour. I feel certain that we must respond with love. We can use words, but also seek to be “doers of the word” (James 1:22).

‘The world needs what we have to offer more than ever. Even when environmental breakdown, war, untruths, isolation and unfairness seem to dominate, our message of simplicity, peace, integrity, community and equality is the antidote.’

Friends can take part through ‘acts of solidarity with refugees or migrants, inviting regular users of the Meeting space to a Meeting for Worship, or planning an all-age or children's Meeting on the theme,’ he added.
