The Retreat marks Quaker heritage
'We have also opened our children’s specialist unit in North Yorkshire to great acclaim – and relief from those who need our services’.
Friends in the York area have requested more events to showcase the Quaker heritage of the mental health institute The Retreat.
Local Friends were among over 120 members of the public who attended two open days this spring. Ian Holborn, chief officer corporate at The Retreat, told the Friend that local Quaker Meetings have been ‘heavily engaged… and are suggesting further open days and events later this summer as part of the historical heritage of York and the Quakers within that’.
Friends came from the heritage group which was formed to support the development of the Heslington Road site. The Retreat agreed a formal contract on the sale of the forty-acre site to the PJ Livesey Group earlier this year.
Ian Holborn said that ‘site development processes are on-going to plan and planning is likely to be submitted this summer for council review. In the meantime, The Retreat Mental Health offer continues to progress with some awareness campaigns for Quaker [mental health] provision in Greater Manchester. We have also opened our children’s specialist unit in North Yorkshire to great acclaim – and relief from those who need our services’.
