The Retreat looks to the future
The Retreat plans a new facility for the treatment of patients with eating disorders
The Retreat, the York mental health facility, has applied for planning permission to build a new patient day care facility for the treatment of patients with eating disorders.
The application for planning permission and listed building consent was submitted to City of York Council on 26 February. If approved, the project will also involve landscaping at the walled garden, which is set within the grounds of The Retreat.
The new facility will include meeting rooms, kitchens, clinical rooms and staff facilities. The Retreat is submitting a separate application for permission to demolish the existing 1970s tower block, then replace it with a new accommodation facility.
‘Our plan is to develop a state of the art service designed to cater for the specific recovery needs of adolescents and supported by our expert therapists in a compassionate environment where they can feel safe,’ a spokesperson for The Retreat said.
The Retreat’s facilities manager told the Friend: ‘We are at the early stages of the planning process and unable to comment further until that hurdle has been passed.’
