The crisis in Syria

Diana Francis believes that dropping bombs offers no solution

What can we say about Syria? Simply that bombing it, like all acts of war, is against our beliefs, as ‘contrary to the mind of Christ’? That’s a good start. I would expand that by arguing that the respect, love, courage, honesty and altruism that he called for and exemplified are the things that will work best for humanity, and express the essential godliness or goodness within our human nature (though not the only aspect of it) and that we can do much better than continuing to slaughter each other. In this I find support in the views expressed in the writing of many modern scientists, as for instance by Edward O Wilson in his book The Social Conquest of Earth (2012).
