Up to this point, I’d been enjoying the classical music station that forms the backcloth to my morning rituals, without perhaps giving it my serious, undivided attention. But I found myself jolted out of my routine by the announcer’s words, even though they were delivered in her usual bright, breezy and brisk tones.
