Over the weekend of 4-6 July, thirty-six teenagers from fourteen Area Meetings (AMs) gathered in Manchester for Teenage General Meeting (TGM), which covers the old Lancashire and Cheshire General Meeting. The teenagers, among them London Link Group, met at Mount Street Meeting House.

Activities included visits to the Imperial War Museum and the Lowry Centre, along with traditional games such as Sardines. On Sunday the group attended Meeting for Worship, before taking part in a treasure hunt in Manchester’s historic city centre.

‘Most Area Meetings don’t have enough teenagers to run events for them. By working across AM boundaries we can get the numbers to create a sustainable spiritual community for Quaker teenagers in our areas,’ said Michael Wood, clerk of London Link Group.

‘It means each AM only has to make one appointment instead of several. Both groups would like to invite other groups of Quaker teenagers and Friends that want to learn about running events for teenagers or young Friends to visit them.’

London Link Group committee member Sam Walton added: ‘This is the first time that we have visited TGM, although we are hopeful we may be able to work together more in the future. We think we are the only two multiple AM link groups (seven AMs each), so it was a great opportunity to share how each of us works.’

Both TGM and London Link Group will hold their next events in September.
