Sustainable security blog re-launched
The Oxford Research Group relaunches their sustainable security blog
The Oxford Research Group have re-launched its blog Sustainable.Security.org. The blog was initiated to create a space to develop a better understanding of modern insecurity within a ‘sustainable security’ framework. It emphasises the need for integrated and preventative approaches to the complex security challenges of today.
As well as providing a platform for reactive analysis to security crises, articles published highlight key drivers of modern insecurity, including climate change, global weapons proliferation and competition over resources.
The Oxford Research Group asserts that a sustainable security approach ‘prioritises the resolution of the underlying drivers of insecurity and conflict, with an emphasis on preventative rather than reactive strategies.’
Current approaches to global security are characterised by the ‘control paradigm’: an approach based on the premise that insecurity can be controlled through military force or containment, thus maintaining the status quo.
The blog was originally launched in September 2009, on the eighth anniversary of 9/11.
