Sustainability gathering registration speeds up
Event gathers momentum after plea
Registration for Britain Yearly Meeting’s forthcoming sustainability gathering has gathered momentum following a plea at Meeting for Sufferings.
Forty-two Area Meetings have appointed representatives, with other Friends planning to attend as ‘interested individuals’ or as nominees of Local Meetings, Laurie Michaelis, secretary to Britain Yearly Meeting Sustainability Group, told the Friend.
The gathering will take place from 18-20 March in Swanwick, Derbyshire.
Laurie said: ‘The gathering is really important for the “community” part of becoming a low carbon sustainable community. There’s been huge progress in Quaker engagement with sustainability, with ambitious and exciting things happening in Meetings around the country. At the same time some Friends and Meetings feel they’re going it alone in their sustainability witness; others don’t know where to start, or find themselves bogged down in conflict or despair.
‘This is an opportunity for mutual support, connecting up with Friends with similar interests or facing similar challenges, sharing experiences and ideas, re-energising our commitment, making it fun.’
