Friends took part in 'Fly Kites Not Drones'

Friends have once again participated in ‘Fly Kites Not Drones’, an act of solidarity with Afghans who live under the threat of military drones.

Sixteen young Friends, aged between eleven and eighteen, flew kites on West Beach in Littlehampton, West Sussex. The Friends, who were members of London Link, made kites and wrote messages on them, ‘in solidarity with the many children who can no longer fly their kites safely’.

Area Meeting coincided with ‘Fly Kites Not Drones’ (which takes place at the Afghan New Year) for members of Bournemouth Coastal Area Meeting. Rather than flying kites on the beach, as they have done in the past, they gathered in Bournemouth Meeting House garden.

‘Flying our kites was difficult because of the trees. Instead we formed a circle and stood in silence, showing solidarity with the campaign and with those who suffer from the use of unmanned drones,’ Pat Yates said.
