Friends House held its first hustings of 2015 on 31 March

More than 280 people signed up for an election hustings held at Friends House on 31 March.

Five politicians had three minutes each to explain why voters should choose their party.

The participants were: Jeremy Lefroy (Conservative Party, standing for election in Stafford), Shahrar Ali (deputy leader of the Green Party, standing in Brent Central), Gavin Shuker (Labour, shadow minister for international development and parliamentary candidate for Luton South), Lindsay Northover (Liberal Democrats, under secretary of state for international development and member of the House of Lords) and Pete Muswell (UKIP, contesting Islington South and Finsbury).

Topics covered included humanitarian assistance, immigration detention, equality, military spending and the UK’s role in unlocking the full potential of girls and women around the world. There was a good turnout of Friends and visitors for the event.

A second hustings will take place at Friends House on 21 April. Webinars (online seminars) will take place on 14 and 17 April, on climate justice and housing respectively. A hustings planned for 9 April was cancelled.
