As a youngster, my sister possessed an autograph book. I tended to think of it as a ‘girl’ thing and of no interest to us lads. Nonetheless, I do recall that those who wrote in the book would add little ditties, maxims or ‘wise’ thoughts that were considered worth passing on. Among these I remember:
Never trouble trouble, till trouble troubles you, you only double trouble and trouble others too
In this same vein was:
Sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me
