Stamp club success
2012 the most successful year for the QPSW stamp club
2012 was one of the most successful years ever for the Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) stamp club. A highlight was the accumulation of mint and used Chinese stamps, plus first day covers, that was initially valued at £1,200 but finally sold for £4,000 at auction.
The stamp club meets in Friends House, London, and sorts stamps that have been sent in. The funds raised are used for Quaker work.
Allan Whitaker, of the QPSW stamp club, said: ‘During 2012 we raised £4,700 at a stamp auction and £750 from approval sales to stamp collectors in aid of QPSW projects.’ The sale of the Chinese stamps was, he explained, ‘our best result ever achieved at an auction’.
Allen praised the hard work of the sorting team and thanked Meetings and individual Friends and attenders in the Isle of Man, Britain, Eire, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the USA for ‘their many varied and regular donations of stamps and stamp albums’.
He urged Friends to continue contributing UK commemorative and foreign stamps to the stamp club.
