Speaking our truth
Friends in Southern England gather to hear Geoffrey Durham speak
Some ninety Friends, from seventeen Local Meetings across central southern England, gathered on 27 April, in Bournemouth, to hear Geoffrey Durham speak.
Richard Bush, of Wimborne Meeting, reports that Geoffrey ‘spoke deeply, on how we can speak our truth, drawing on Thomas Merton and others, in a rich tapestry of words and text. Truth without love, and love without truth, were disentangled, to draw us to an unequivocal position, from deep within us. Whatever the situation, wherever we are, we can be guided, if we trust the words given to us.’
Richard added: ‘Friends offered their own deep perspectives, which added depth to a richly centred day. These emerged in questions and reflections upon Geoffrey’s words to us.’
The second Regional Gathering this year, to be held in Southampton in October, will focus on poverty and its causes in our current economic climate. It will, Richard said, hopefully draw upon the work of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and its study of the impact of government policies on the poor.
