Sounding trumpets for Charlotte

Charlotte Stevens moved with her Cambridge professor husband, John, to Shetland in the 1980s, all because of her grandfather. Stories of his life, as a travelling Jew (later converted), had always fascinated her. Charlotte was proud of her part Jewish heritage and was, in fact, eventually buried in the same churchyard.  Generosity and shortbread  Charlotte and I met on peace demos, in concerts and at interesting lectures. She began to attend Shetland Quaker Meetings for Worship, which were sometimes held in her house and where she made exquisite shortbread. There was always enough to take home with us.
