Solidarity with Gaza
Quakers joined others to show solidarity with people in Gaza
Friends joined a demonstration in London to mark on 15 May to show solidarity with people in Gaza. Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) has also urged Friends to contact their MPs or MEPs, asking them to encourage the Israeli government to ‘stop its illegal use of live gunfire on unarmed civilians’, and to call for an end to arms sales to Israel.
The Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) team has prepared a template letter that Friends can sign and send to politicians.

It’s disappointing that QPSW have fallen for the machinations of Hamas, who are hardline Islamists committed to de-legitimising Israel by every available means including violence. As Paul Parker warns elsewhere in this edition of The Friend - I think you will find it is not that simple.

Quaker solidarity with the people of Gaza is more than justified. In protesting on a decade- long Israeli -Egyptian blockade on the territory and a demand for a “right to return” for Palestinian refugee families to ancestral homes in Israel, previously forcibly taken by the Israel government, 120 unarmed protesters have been killed and 3,600 have been shot with live ammunition. And now a young volunteer health worker has been killed attending a wounded protester. And it’s all the responsibility of Hamas, claim the Israeli’s; their media operations are unconvincing !
