Second Quaker ‘Truth & Integrity’ award
'The award will be made to an individual or organisation in recognition of an exceptional contribution towards the enhancement of standards of truth and integrity in public life in Britain.'
Nominations for the second Quaker Truth & Integrity Group (QTIG) award opened on 1 January. The award will be made to an individual or organisation in recognition of an exceptional contribution towards the enhancement of standards of truth and integrity in public life in Britain.
Gerald Hewitson, QTIG co-clerk, said that he ‘hopes the award will help focus attention on the importance of truth and integrity in public life, while also emphasising the longstanding Quaker commitment in this area. We do so in the spirit of promoting kinder ground. Last year we were encouraged by the large number of nominations and hope that this year the award will again capture the imagination of Friends’.
A significant feature of the new terms of reference is that nominations must be accompanied by a supporting statement giving background and reasons. Nominations may be made by individual Friends, Local Meetings or Area Meetings. The revised terms of reference can be found on the QTIG website. Nominations may be sent to quakertruth@gmail.com. The closing date for nominations is 30 April 2024.
In 2023 the award was made to Carole Cadwalladr. ‘As an investigative journalist and author, Carole exposed with great courage serious instances of malpractice and threats to democracy. In doing so, she has made a major contribution towards the enhancement of truth and integrity in public affairs,’ said QTIG.

When is the award winner announced? How is the decision made? is there anything like a shortlisting or publication of what nominations there are?
