Scottish Quakers welcome new MSPs
Postcard campaign after May election
Friends across Scotland have been sending postcards to their newly elected MSPs highlighting their hopes for the future as Quakers.
The campaign was initiated by Andrew Tomlinson, the new parliamentary engagement officer (PEO) for Quakers in Scotland, after the elections in May.
Andrew Tomlinson told the Friend: ‘With the start of the new parliament, and with so many MSPs being newly elected to the parliament, the Parliamentary Engagement Working Group for Quakers in Scotland encouraged Friends in Scotland to send a postcard to their MSPs. The idea behind the initiative was to build relationships between friends and their elected representatives that could make it easier to engage with them further down the line as specific issues arose.’
Andrew Tomlinson said that with roughly a third of this crop of MSPs new to the parliament, it was ‘a perfect opportunity to make a connection’.
The parliamentary team is currently trying to collate information of who sent postcards and their responses.
