Salter Lecture 2025 announced
Abimbola Johnson will deliver the 2025 Salter Lecture
The Quaker Socialist Society (QSS) has announced that the Quaker lawyer Abimbola Johnson is to be the 2025 Salter Lecturer.
Sheila Taylor, coordinator of the Salter Lecture, told the Friend: ‘Abimbola read law at Oxford [University], was called to the Bar in 2011, and has recently been appointed to chair ISOB [the Independent Scrutiny and Oversight Board], the national police scrutiny body. Her topic will be chosen from the fields of law, policing and equality.’
Sheila first met Abimbola Johnson at a Black History Month event organised by the Metropolitan Police in Southwark, where the lawyer spoke about her role on the board and mentioned she was a Quaker. ‘I’d been thinking about the concept of equality, because two years ago the Salter Lecture covered the climate crisis, and the last one was about war, and those are the three big issues facing the world,’ said Sheila.
The lecture is provisionally scheduled to take place on the Sunday evening of next year’s Yearly Meeting (25 May 2025). QSS will confirm the timing and topic early next year.
