Religious leaders in zero carbon call
Religious leaders call for a zero carbon future
More than 150 religious leaders have signed a statement calling for a zero carbon, climate resilient and equitable future.
The statement was handed to the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres. It was coordinated by ACT Alliance, CIDSE (an international alliance of Catholic development agencies), Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Religions for Peace and the World Council of Churches (WCC).
The signatories called for an ambitious climate agreement, reminding all governments to commit to emission cuts and climate risk reduction, and pledged important contributions from their own faith communities, including divestment from fossil energy.
