In 2009 Britain Yearly Meeting decided to press for equality in marriage, including the introduction of Quaker same sex marriage. For the first time, it became open to lesbian and gay Friends to marry as Quakers, in a marriage that would have equal standing with heterosexual marriage, within the Religious Society of Friends.
