Quakers offer prayers for Nairobi
Nairobi Yearly Meeting has issued a statement
The Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) has encouraged ‘Quakers around the world to hold our Friends in Nairobi in prayer’.
The message, which was tweeted on 17 January, was offered in response to the terror attack in a hotel and office complex in the Kenyan capital by Islamist extremist gunmen. Twenty-one people have since been confirmed dead.
Gretchen Castle, general secretary of FWCC, said: ‘FWCC reaches out to our Friends in Kenya, as they are reeling from the recent violence in Nairobi, not far from the FWCC Africa Section office. On behalf of Friends around the world, we pray for this random violence to stop and for time and Spirit to bring some solace and healing for those who have been affected.’
Nairobi Yearly Meeting released a statement extending its ‘sincere heartfelt condolences’. This said: ‘As a church we have been directly and indirectly affected just the way other Kenyans have been.’
