Quakers mix internationally for World Quaker Day

Friends have been encouraged to join international Friends for worship to celebrate this autumn’s World Quaker Day. The Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) invited Friends everywhere to send or receive visitors from another Quaker community.

Tim Gee, general secretary of FWCC, said: ‘Intervisitation today is the easiest it has ever been, with many Quakers meeting online or in hybrid form. Events like World Quaker Day help nurture the lasting, spirited, joyful connections across different countries and Quaker traditions which provide the basis for all our work.’

The initiative follows successful experiments with large-scale ‘hybrid’ (online/offline) Meetings for Worship throughout the pandemic. Quaker groups in Africa, the Americas, Asia West Pacific, and Europe and the Middle East are preparing to welcome online and in-person visitors from elsewhere to mark the day on 2 October.

Friends who would like to be part of World Quaker Day 2022 can sign up to visit another Quaker group, or welcome Friends to theirs, at www.worldquakerday.org.

In line with the theme ‘Becoming the Quakers the World Needs’, FWCC said: ‘Friends are invited to look for something good others are doing to become “the Quakers the world needs”, and share that with their home church or Meeting.’

Britain Yearly Meeting unveiled the new Quaker Week posters recently. Meetings will receive copies in the post. They can also be downloaded from the outreach page on the Quakers in Britain website.
