Quakers get ready for World Plenary
‘With the first Quaker World Plenary since 2016 five months away, Quakers from across Britain planning to attend in South Africa or online met last week.'
Friends are gathering to discuss this summer’s Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) World Plenary. The theme of the meeting in August is: ‘Living the Spirit of Ubuntu: Responding with hope to God’s call to cherish creation – and one another’.
‘With the first Quaker World Plenary since 2016 five months away, Quakers from across Britain planning to attend in South Africa or online met last week [26 Feb],’ a Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) spokesperson told the Friend.
‘Twenty-six Friends met via Zoom to discuss hopes and concerns over the meeting, joined by Nancy Fee, co-clerk of the planning committee, from Southern Africa Yearly Meeting. Friends were offered advice from old hands, including taking warm clothes to deal with the Johannesburg winter, and a Bible to facilitate conversation with other strands of Quakerism.’
The World Plenary Meetings are held every seven to eight years where representatives from all four FWCC sections attend to business. Participants also experience worship and fellowship together.
