Quakers discuss plans for George Fox’s 400th birthday
Ideas include 'birthday parties, reenactments, children’s stories and puppet shows, and opportunities for worshipping together'.
Friends came together last month to share ideas on how Quakers can celebrate George Fox’s 400th birthday in 2024. The co-founder of Quakerism was born in July 1624 in Drayton-in-the-Clay in Leicestershire.
Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) said there were ‘many good times to tell the stories of the beginnings of our Quaker story, to remember the things that Quakers have been part of achieving since then and to create engaging events and spaces that newcomers want to be part of. This time though, as we begin to envision life beyond the hardships of the pandemic, feels like a particularly good time to do so’.
Ideas from the online creative sessions on 6 May, organised by FWCC, included birthday parties, reenactments, children’s stories and puppet shows, and opportunities for worshipping together.
