Quakers and Business focus on decision-making
The annual conference of the Quakers and Business Group took place in December
The annual conference of the Quakers and Business group was held at Friends House on 5 December and considered the subject: ‘Seek unity; uphold difference; find wholeness: Exploring decision-making through Quaker Business Method and other models.’
Approximately sixty people shared a variety of presentations, exercises and small group discussions on a range of topics during a successful day.
Bruce Johnson, of the Quakers and Business Group, said: ‘Ruth Steinholtz explained some of her research on ethical decision making.
‘Claire James talked on conversational intelligence and how understanding neuroscience can help. Peter Cheng connected Quaker business practice with wider theories of management. Paul Moxey spoke on cognitive bias, and that was just the morning.
‘After a networking lunch Ruth Steinholtz led a session on values based decision making. Eoin McCarthey and Paul Moxey initiated a community of practice and Shivaji Shiva spoke on Quaker business practice and the public good. This was followed by a “whole self – whole system” decision-making exercise, led by Sarah James-Wright.’
Bruce Johnson added: ‘The day proved powerful and provocative, both explaining the benefits and promoting the practice of Quaker Business Method.’
