Friends held a Meeting for Worship outside Farnborough Air Show for the first time
On Sunday 20 July twenty-six Friends took part, for the first time, in a Meeting for Worship outside Farnborough Air Show. Members of the local Sussex and Surrey Regional Meeting were joined by Friends from London, Bristol and Southampton.
Farnborough, best known for its public air show, hosts a major arms fair and civil aerospace exhibition. Exhibitors this year included Rosoboronexport, the main weapons supplier to Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, and Israeli arms companies, including a leading manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
Farnborough Quaker Christina Slaney said: ‘Farnborough Air Show is a fitting place to pray for peace and for an end to our government’s reliance on military ways of solving the world’s problems’.
The organisers of the Meeting for Worship said that they would be back ‘again and again, until the arms fair is ended’.
