A Quaker theologian and historian spoke in a BBC podcast about Quaker history last month.

Ben Pink Dandelion, Woodbrooke’s programme leader for research, told the Friend the episode in the BBC HistoryExtra podcast series is designed as a response to questions submitted via their website and social media channels. ‘The BBC approached me to make it,’ he said. ‘I was asked about the beginnings; how distinctive Quakers are; some of the practices that differ from other churches; Quakers globally; and the famous industrialists and social reformers.’ The episode ‘Quaker History: Everything you wanted to know’ with broadcaster Ellie Cawthorne went live on 22 December.

The introduction to the podcast says: ‘Radical rabble-rousers, trusted bankers and conscientious objectors; the Quakers have been viewed in many different ways down the centuries. Their non-conformist origins and unique religious principles have long set them apart from the rest of society, but their story touches on some of the central themes of British and American history.’

The podcast is available via many apps, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
