Quaker Tapestry launches virtual tour
Covid-19 closure means museum needs help to revive, survive and thrive
The Quaker Tapestry museum has launched a virtual tour where visitors can ‘walk’ among the panels and watch short films on its history.
With the museum currently closed due to the Covid-19 crisis, Ros Batchelor, Quaker Tapestry trustee and clerk of the Planning and Finance Committee, said that the museum’s capacity to earn essential income has been severely affected. She said: ‘Usually the income we earn in the summer season helps carry us through the next normal winter closure. Like all museums we always have a funding gap to fill but this situation is totally unprecedented. We need substantial help at this time to revive, survive and thrive.’
Kendal and Sedbergh Area Meeting, with the Quaker Tapestry, were raising funds to renew the very large roof of Kendal Meeting House, where the Tapestry is based, but plans have been put on hold due to the pandemic. Friends, however, still hope to undertake the work soon.
The Quaker Tapestry museum recently celebrated twenty-five years of contributing to Quaker outreach. The museum is working on a plan for reopening.
