Quaker presence at party conferences
Michael Bartlet will be representing Friends
British Quakers are to have a formal presence at the conferences of the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties.
Friends will be represented by Michael Bartlet, parliamentary liaison secretary for Britain Yearly Meeting, the formal organisation of British Friends. He will join a delegation that will include representatives from the Baptists, Methodists, Salvation Army and United Reformed Church.
Michael told the Friend that it is important for Quakers to engage politically. He said, ‘Cuts to both local and national government spending are having a disproportionate and devastating impact on the poorest and most disadvantaged people’.
