'Overwhelming' response to call for poems

by The Friend Newsdesk 8th March 2013

A recent appeal for poems by Quakers, for a proposed poetry anthology, has enjoyed a tremendous response.  The new Quaker poetry anthology is being edited by poets RV Bailey and Stevie Krayer and will be published by Indigo Dreams.

The call for poems for inclusion in the anthology was put out in the Friend in autumn 2012. Rosie Bailey and Stevie Krayer have written to the magazine to say they ‘were overwhelmed by the response – hundreds of poems were received’. They also thank all those who offered work, for their enthusiasm and support, and ‘for the many warm messages you sent us’.

The two poets revealed that the huge response has also presented challenges: ‘We have had to whittle down the submissions to the very limited number for which we have room, and will shortly be notifying the successful poets.’

They say: ‘Sadly, lack of time and money prevents us from responding individually to all those who sent poems. So, if you have not heard from us within the next fortnight, the message is that, unfortunately, we could not find room for your work on this occasion.’

The editors were keen to stress their appreciation of all the submissions received and to encourage those who offered poems.

They say: ‘We are sorry that many of you will be disappointed, but hope you will not be discouraged and that you will enjoy the results of our labours. We wish you all the best – keep writing!’
