Quaker peace witness in Ukraine
Two Friends have returned from Ukraine
Two Friends have recently returned from a trip to Ukraine where they were engaged in peace witness.
In May Friends from Russia and Estonia voiced their concern over the situation in Ukraine and expressed an interest in visiting to see how they could help.
Following an appeal in the Friend, a significant amount was donated, enabling the visit to take place, peace activist John Lampen said.
‘The response from readers and Meetings was superb; in a couple of weeks Friends World Committee for Consultation European and Middle East Section (FWCC-EMES) was given almost £10,000, some of it coming from other countries in Europe,’ he told the Friend.
Increased violence in Ukraine delayed the departure of Friends Roland Rand and Mischa Roschin, but they have both now completed visits to the country during which they had fruitful discussions with peacemakers.
‘EMES has received individual reports from each of them, and they are now working on a joint report on the situation which will include recommendations,’ John added.
