Quaker Mount School hosts army recruiter
‘The Mount’s Quaker ethos means that girls are not told what to believe but can take aspects of Quakerism that speak to them.'
The Mount School in York, which is a Quaker Recognised Body, has hosted a military recruiter as part of its Careers Week.
According to a post on the school’s Twitter account on 7 March, Georgina Tognola, a lead recruiter for the British Army, came to deliver a talk on its ‘medical careers and officer cadetships programme’ on 9 March.
The school has a page on its website dedicated to its ‘Quaker ethos’, saying that the school’s values reflect the Quaker testimonies, listing peace and social justice among them. It also quotes a sixth form leaver as saying that: ‘The Mount’s Quaker ethos means that girls are not told what to believe but can take aspects of Quakerism that speak to them. Although girls in the School come from different faiths and backgrounds and all have different beliefs, the values of Quakerism become important to all of us.’
The Mount School became a Quaker Recognised Body after approval from Meeting for Sufferings in 2019.
The Friend has contacted the school for more information.
